SPM EXCELLENCE in Product PLANNING

This course is aimed at encompassing all topics that deal with the planning and management of implementing product strategy in the ongoign development of a software product.During the course there is plenty of time for realistic case studies, exercises and we will answer the question: "How can you implement your vision and strategy in a structured & efficient way?"

This course is suitable for any software product manager who wants to specialize in product planning. Utilize experimental approaches like customer discovery in combination with analytical approaches to make informed business choices, accelerate implementation and drive change aligned with new approaches in development like DevOps and continuous development, integration and delivery.

SPM Excellence in product planning

Software Product Managers are responsible for the Product Planning of their (software) product. In three days you will learn how to develop a plan with associated actions for implementation of the product vision and strategy and its execution.

 

Meet Prof. Hans-Bernd Kittlaus

Hans-Bernd is instructor for the Software Product Management and Software Tailorability courses. Hans-Bernd has worked as a trainer, coach and consultant for corporate IT organizations as well as companies in the IT industry. In addition, He has trained hundreds of product managers worldwide in more than 80 SPM courses, including all five ISPMA-based training modules.

A frequent presenter at conferences, Hans-Bernd has published numerous books and articles, his latest being "Software Product Management: The ISPMA-Compliant Study Guide and Handbook" (with Samuel Fricker, Springer 2017). Diplom-Informatiker (equivalent to M.S. in Computer Science) and certified as an ISPMA Certified Software Product Manager, Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and PRINCE2 Practitioner.

Product planning in combination with orchestration ensures the implementation of product vision and strategy including feedback loops.

Drive the implementation of product strategy and vision in the product planning process.

Product Planning Approaches and Scenarios

Product managers need to understand not only the requirements-driven approach to product planning, but also the data-analysis-driven and the data-input-driven approaches, and their relationship to the scenarios the product and its components are in.

Understand the three product planning approaches and the four product scenarios.

Customer Insight

Customer Insight is a most important basis for a product manager’s decision making. It can be gained and improved through direct customer contacts and data analytics.

Acquire a deep and always up-to-date understanding of customer context, problems, and their dynamics.

Product Release Management

Product managers need to master all three approaches to product planning: requirements-driven, data-analysis-driven and data-input-driven, and apply them dependent on the scenarios the product and its components are in. Innovation and experimentation play major roles.

Be able to apply the right product planning approach depending on the scenario.

Different release approaches can be used depending on the given scenario. In any case the product manager needs to prioritize.

Product Life Cycle Management

A roadmap is a plan for realizing a product vision according to the product strategy.

Be able to create and maintain a roadmap for your product.

A product manager can take appropriate action depending on where the product is in relation to different life cycle models: product life cycle, technology adoption life cycle and category life cycle.

Be able to position your product in relation to the three life cycle models and take action.

Exam (optional)

A number of models like ISPMA’s SPM Framework, measurements and tools can help with improvements of the product planning processes.

Be able to select and apply models, measurements and tools for continuous product planning process improvement.

Convert your acquired knowledge into a certificate.
